Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonsalves
The Canadian Conference on African and Black Community Entrepreneurship in the Northwest Territories was held on May 28, 2023, at The Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife, NT. Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonsalves on behalf of her company, the Historical Research International Inc. (Canada), presented on Entrepreneurship and Business History in Canada, and the importance of documenting the history of companies.
The feature address was delivered by Mr. Adama Kone, Vice President of the Canada Mali Chamber of Commerce, while the conference was chaired by Mr. Francois Afane, Executive Director of CDÉTNO. Presenters were business persons, academics, and community leaders, including Mrs. Cynthia Mufandaedza, Co-Founder of Best Movers; Mr. Newton Grey, President of the NWT Chamber of Commerce; Ms. Aminata Konate, Founder of My African Cuisine; and Louise Jean Noel and Diana Lubansa, Proprietors of LJJ Barbershop, among others. The conference was also livestreamed via Zoom, and included discussions on economic opportunities in the Northwest Territories and Africa for Black Entrepreneurs. Discussions were held on an action plan for doing business in the Northwest Territories and Africa (Mali).

The conference was organized by CDÉTNO, Black Advocacy Coalition, Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, Chambre de Commerce Canada Mali, Black Advisory Hub, and the NWT Chamber of Commerce.
